Message to Ken Mayer.

Ken,

I replied to message of 14/Jan in the "GPF - When using
database and closing/opening/closing dbase" thread, but I
guess you missed it too. I'm sorry I was late replying.

You're quite right, my message was'nt clear enough.
Apologies.

From PLUS IDE...

1 - Click the 'Tables' tab on the Navigator
2 - Select 'DBASESAMPLES' or any other database from the
drop down menu.
3 - Close PLUS (file menu, exit option)
4 - Run PLUS
5 - Close the database DBASESAMPLE from the command
window -Close database DBSAMPLES.
6 - Close PLUS (file menu, exit option) and, bingo, a GPF
pops up.

Ken,

Roland reproduced it on his machine. That's two users
reproducing it, and I reproduced it on a clean machine
running 2000 pro with latest SP. I accept that you cannot
reproduce it on your machine, but have you tried it on one
PC only?

Thanks.

I tried this on 2 different machines. Both XP Pro boxes.
b1749 & b1748
I can not reproduce this GPF.

Rich,

Is b1749 available as a download?

I did bot experience this problem until I dowloaded and
installed version 2.2 b1746.

I installed this version on a clean PC (2000 pro) that did
not have a previous PLUS installation, yet the GPF did raise
its ugly face.

I'll try it later on on an XP and will report progress.

Hi Rich,

Eventually I got to the bottom of this one. In fact, I
killed two birds with one stone. I was having a problem with
createIndex, I just couldn't get it to work. However, the
problem occurs because of the same reason as described
below: desktop files' properties

GPF, in this case, is caused by the way "PLUS"
desktop->files properties are set and the "close databases"
command.

On our machines, we set the current-directory to point to a
folder and the search-path pointing to a different folder.

When working in PLUS, the navigator's Look-in combobox shows
the current-directory folder.

If you change your "PLUS" desktop->files properties
current-directory and search-path to be different, and try
the instructions again, I bet you' ll get the GPF, because
when I change the Look-in field to point to the search-path
folder I cannot reproduce the problem.

However, I can reproduce the bug reported in this thread by
Ivar, regardless of the desktop-files properties setting.

Thanks

I assume your build is the same as Rich's, and is a later
build than 1746. The problem is occuring with build 1746,
therefore I can't see how you can really investigate this
problem.

A silly question to ask, but I'll ask it anyway. When's the
new build being released, and can we have the same build as
Rich's?

Thanks

No GPF when I close dBASE.
Using win2000/Plus 2.2 I can not reproduce the GPF, but there is something not
quite right with the close databases command.

1) Start Plus
2) From Navigator->Table open database dbasesamples
3) In command pane type close data dbasesamples. Go to Navigator and confirm
that database is closed.
4) From Navigator->Table open database dbasesamples
5) In command pane type close data dbasesamples. Result is Alert box,

Error: Datatype mismatch. Ecpecting: Object

Go to Navigator and confirm that database is closed.

Data is a valid four letter abbreviation of databases and should work the same
way, no matter how many times it is used. Once when trying various spellings
such as datab, databa, ... I got a GPF after more than ten tests.

Ivar,

I can reproduce your error, but as well as getting the same
error I also get the following error:

Error: Invalid subscript reference.

I got this error once only.

Back to my problem.

Please check my response to Ken, to show exactly how to
reproduce my GPF.

I can, in fact, reproduce or not reproduce it at will.

1 - Click the 'Tables' tab on the Navigator
2 - Select 'DBASESAMPLES' or any other database from the
drop down menu.
3 - Close PLUS (file menu, exit option)
4 - Run PLUS

Step 5 is where it all happens.

5 - Close the database DBASESAMPLE from the command
window -

Please type the following exactly as shown below:

Close database dbasesamples

6 - Close PLUS (file menu, exit option) and, bingo, a GPF
pops up.

The GPF does not reproduce if change step 5 to:

CLOSE DATABASES

I am not the only one to encounter the problem, Roland
reproduce it.

I know the difficulty in resolving the problem if the
developers cannot reproduce it, but it has been reproduced
on two machines over and over again.

Could it be something to do with the BDE? I wonder.

Thanks.
